Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly on the brink of completing a move for highly-rated Golden Arrows defender Nkosinathi Sibisi.

Golden Arrows have done their utmost to keep the player at the club hoping his solidity at the back will make things easier for the third different head coach in three seasons at the Durban club.

Mamelodi Sundowns want Sibisi

However, it seems that the lure of South African football giants Mamelodi Sundowns might prove irresistible.

According to a report from Soccer Laduma, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows have agreed a deal for the transfer to go ahead, and it is now left to the player to agree personal terms and make the switch to Chloorkop.

With Orlando Pirates also retaining an interest in the rising defensive star, Sundowns are believed to be keen to get this deal signed off before the Premiership season kicks off.

As recently as this weekend’s KZN Premier’s Cup Arrows coach Lehlohonolo Seema told the media that he was hoping to still have Sibisi at his disposal for the long term.

Cover for the loss of Nascimento

Veteran Mamelodi Sundowns defender Ricardo Nascimento has suffered a career-threatening injury and has been released to complete rehabilitation in his native Brazil. The long-term absence of the stalwart has prompted Mamelodi Sundowns to renew interest in signing the 25-year-old before the transfer window closes on 31 August.

Sibisi appeared set to join Orlando Pirates last month along with Sifiso Mlungwana, but despite the keeper being unveiled as a Buccaneer, Sibisi has remained in Durban and reported for pre-season training with Golden Arrows.

Mosa Lebusa and Rushine de Reuck are the men currently tasked with holding down the centre back berths at Mamelodi Sundowns, but the departure of Nascimento has left the club thin on the ground by their high standards, with just Brian Onyango and the unsettled Bangaly Soumahoro in reserve.
