HISTORY OF THE OVAL GROUNDS

The Kia Oval is a cricket ground located in Kennington, south London, and is known for a few special aspects. These reputable grounds opened in 1845 and are the home ground of Surrey County Cricket Club. The Oval was the first ground to host international Test cricket in September 1880. And in 1907, South Africa became the second visiting team to partake in a Test match on these grounds. It is also tradition for the final Test match of the English season to be played at the Oval.

KEVIN PIETERSEN RELIVES SOME OF HIS FAVOURITE MOMENTS

Kevin Pietersen is a South African cricketer, born in Pietermaritzburg. He was part of the England cricket team as batsman between 2005 and 2014. Currently, Pietersen is a cricket commentator and conservationist. If you love the game, why not take a look at Betway.

During his visit to the Oval grounds, it is clear that these grounds are special to the ex-cricket player and he describes it as “truly unique”.

“When you get the opportunity to come to the Oval, it means so much to you.”

One of the first unique things Pietersen points out is how it is one of the only grounds where the players need to walk through the crowd to get onto the field. He proceeds to describe a specific game where he managed to get 158 runs that resulted in England winning the Ashes series for the first time in 18 years.

“When I came back up the stairs after that 158, it was absolute chaos. To just be swamped as players by the fans – you want to experience it.”

“Dreams have been created on this very ground”, Pietersen says as he remembers how he celebrated his first Ashes Test match 100.

Pietersen ends his tour of the Oval by sitting in the stands and overlooking the grounds. As he looks out onto the ground in awe, he remarks that “there are so many fond memories that I wish could just happen again”.
