South Africa’s Kevin Lerena, who holds the IBO cruiserweight belt, will meet little-known Bilal Laggoune from Belgium for the newly created WBC Silver bridgerweight title.

KEVIN LERENA V BILAL LAGGOUNE ON MARCH 13

The fight has been scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Emperors Palace.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) recently announced that they were adding an 18th weight class to the existing 17 divisions in boxing, with the bridgerweight class for boxers between 91kg and 102kg.

BRIDGERWEIGHT CASS NAMED AFTER 6-YEAR-OLD BOY

This weight class will be between the heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions and could end up being called the super-cruiserweight class.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the bridgerweight class is that it was named after Bridger Walker, a six-year-old boy who heroically saved his four-year-old sister from an attack by a wild dog.
