Reports have emerged this week suggesting that Kaizer Chiefs have begun talks with Moroka Swallows striker Ruzaigh Gamildien.

The Dube birds are flying high in their first season back in South Africa’s top flight but that doesn’t mean that they will be able to resist the advances of Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs in for veteran Swallows striker

Kaizer Chiefs recently learned that they will be able to dip back into the transfer market at the end of the season with almost everyone in agreement that the Soweto Giants need an overhaul.

With reinforcements needed across the park and the Premiership’s highest-paid player, Khama Billiat, misfiring at Naturena a spending spree is imminent.

Gamildien is Swallows top goalscorer with 10 goals from 17 matches in the DStv Premiership and finds himself at the top of the list of Kaizer Chiefs transfer targets. Gamildien was also recently rewarded for his sustained good form with a Bafana Bafana recall.

At 32-years-old Gamildien is no spring chicken but Kaizer Chiefs are desperate for players who will make an immediate impact on the team’s form in much the same way as Serbian import Samir Nurkovic did in his freshman season with Amakhosi.

According to Soccer Laduma, a decision will be reached on the transfer of Gamildien and highly-rated defender Njabulo Ngcobo closer to the end of the season.

The two Soweto-based clubs have a friendly association with Kaizer Chiefs allowing Swallows to take on the services of Sifiso Hlanti and Kgaogelo Sekgota this season as Amakhosi failed in their bid to have a transfer ban lifted and couldn’t register the players for the 2020/21 season.

Gamildien’s winding road to the top

The journeyman striker has spent much of his time in recent seasons playing outside of the top-flight. He could never really settle despite his obvios potential.

Gamildien has made three international appearances since his Bafana Bafana debut in 2013 but hasn’t enjoyed a season the likes of his 2020/21 campaign to date.

The well-travelled player, has flitted between Cape sides and has spent time in KwaZulu-Natal with Amazulu and the Free State with Bloem Celtic.

A physical presence in the final third, Gamildien will be an easy fit for Kaizer Chiefs style which accommodates target-men like Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro well.
