Kaizer Chiefs to appeal PSL ruling on Moses Mabhida Stadium violence

Amakhosi are set to return to Moses Mabhida Stadium in October, but uncertainty hangs over whether spectators will be allowed for the clash.

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly set to appeal the PSL ruling made against them following the violence at Moses Mabhida Stadium in last season’s Nedbank semifinal against Free State Stars.

Amakhosi were found guilty of spectator misbehaviour after fans took to the pitch to voice their frustrations with former coach Steve Komphela as the match ended in chaotic scenes, with stadium personnel attacked and broadcast equipment damaged in the angry mob’s wake.

Recently, the PSL’s disciplinary committee ordered that the club plays two of their home matches behind closed doors, with a further one suspended for 24 months, provided that a similar incident does not happen in that period.

Kaizer Chiefs to appeal PSL decision

According to IOL, Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung confirmed that the club have appealed the decision made by the PSL.

“We are waiting for the PSL to come back us,” he said.

“For now, we can’t be encouraging fans to buy tickets for our clash against Polokwane City. There’s an appeal process and we have to wait for that process to take place.”

Uncertainty over Amakhosi’s return to Moses Mabhida Stadium

Should the ruling not be reversed, it would prove a massive blow to Amakhosi’s pocket, as they have an agreement with Moses Mabhida Stadium, which serves as their second home venue.

They are scheduled to return to Durban as hosts in the space of two weeks, as they will be welcoming Polokwane City there on Saturday, 6 October.

Despite the uncertainty, Moses Mabhida Stadium manager Vusi Mazibuko encouraged fans to purchase tickets for the clash.

“Tickets for that game are on sale. We are still discussing the PSL decision with Chiefs. We have the game on October 6 and people can buy tickets.”

Kaizer Chiefs next match is an away fixture against Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa on 2 October.
