WSB Met: Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Summer Festival of Racing

The Cape’s flagship horserace and the pinnacle of the inaugural Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Summer Festival of Racing, the R2 million Gr1 Cape Town WSB Met will be run for the 161st time under forecast sunny skies on Saturday with the fashionistas stepping out to showcase the Mardi Gras theme.

The ‘People’s Horse’ KOMMETDIEDING defends his title and takes on the opposition that includes the 2022 runner-up JET DARK and star 3yo’s COUSIN CASEY and MAKE IT SNAPPY.

While KOMMETDIEDING has not won since last year’s showcase, a trip North to bid for the Gr1 features in Gauteng did him no favours, and he has performed admirably at a mile in recent starts. The son of Elusive Fort strips fit and could prove the value in what is likely to be his final appearance on a racetrack.

The Hollywood Syndicate’s MAKE IT SNAPPY is now a dual Gr1 winner at her last two starts and takes on the stars with just 51,5kgs to lumber. National log leader Keagan de Melo partners her for the first time and she looks to become only the third 3yo filly in 117 years to win the prized trophy.

Fellow sophomore COUSIN CASEY was runner-up behind the sensational CHARLES DICKENS in the Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas and now tries the 2000m for the first time. Stable confidence is at a high and there is plenty of support behind the smashing son of Vercingetorix.

Recent Gr1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate winner AL MUTHANA is in peak form, but there are question marks around his ability to be competitive at this level at the 2000m. Piere Strydom rides the Australian-bred gelding in what will be his final Met ride.

The vintage class of 2023 includes SA Triple Tiara star RAIN IN HOLLAND and Hollywoodbets Durban July winner SPARKLING JEWEL. We are set for a great race!
