Summer Cup returns for 125th running at Turffontein in November

The Summer Cup, one of Gauteng’s most prestigious annual sporting events, is back at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, 26 November 2022.

The Summer Cup, one of Gauteng’s biggest and most prestigious annual sporting events which combines the finest in horse racing, entertainment and fashion, is back at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, 26 November 2022.

Some of South Africa’s elite thoroughbred champions are among the horses lining up to run in the R2 million Summer Cup after the first entries list, underlining the event’s status as one of South African horseracing’s blue ribbon events.

The Summer Cup is a unique Johannesburg experience

Boasting phenomenal Johannesburg city views, the fan favourite Summer Garden hospitality area, Piazza public area, VIP marquees, delicious food stalls, activities and entertainment, the stage is set for the 125th running of the highly anticipated Summer Cup.

There will also be a kiddies area and a half time concert with some of South Africa’s top musical talent on what will be a fun family day open to all who love horseracing or who simply love Joburg’s energy and zest for big events.

This season is shaping up to be a golden Gauteng summer like no other, and residents can look forward to watching top quality horseracing champions such as Sparkling Water, Rain in Holland, Safe Passage, Red Saxon and MK’s Pride, who are among the early entries.

  • The Summer Cup will be run on Saturday, 26 November at Turffontein Racecourse.
  • Second entries close at 11:00 on Tuesday, 1 November.
  • Final entries close at 09:00 on Friday, 18 November, on which date the weights will be published.
  • Declarations are due by 11:00 on Monday, 21 November.
