The former world No 1 and 15-time Major winner had to cut out his car by the jaws of life after it rolled multiple times.

All all accounts the 45-year-old was “very fortunate” to survive, law enforcement officials who found the US golf legend said.

Tiger Woods did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the early-morning incident, and underwent surgery on both legs.

No other vehicles or passengers were involved in the crash which occurred on a steep stretch of road known as an accident “hotspot,” where Woods was travelling at “a greater speed than normal”.

The SUV appeared to be one used at the recent PGA Tour event, the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, where Woods was the tournament host.
