Due to heavy rain, play is suspended at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Play has been suspended at the 40th instalment of the Nedbank Golf Challenge that is currently underway at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City.

Owing to rainy conditions, the tournament had to be paused. Play is expected to resume on Saturday, 12 November, at 7:45

Dubbed Africa’s Major, the Nedbank Golf Challenge is a big highlight of the South African sporting calendar. In its history, the event has featured the biggest names in world golf. With 66 players, playing over four days, for a purse of $6 million. The tournament forms part of the DP World Tour and is the penultimate event on the Race to Dubai.

The play was first suspended at 11:49 am because of a thunderstorm, and it wasn’t able to resume as the Gary Player Country Club was soaked by consistent rain throughout the afternoon. The second round will resume at 7:45 am on Saturday, with the third round to follow after its completion.

Hopefully if everything goes right we might get the third round done on Saturday. A lot of it is up in the air and we’ll have to see what the weather throws at us. If we get through the third round we’d certainly want to complete four rounds. The forecast is not good for the weekend so we’ll be watching it all closely and trying to make any plans we can to keep this tournament the great success that it always is.

Day one saw New Zealand’s Ryan Fox climb to the top of the leaderboard while Branden Grace and Justin Walters led the South African challenge.
