South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel raked in the money on Saturday after winning the first event in the LIV Golf Invitational Series at the Centurion Club in London.

Schwartzel posted a third and final round of 2-over par 72 to finish the tournament on 7-under par, earning himself $4 million (R63.5 million) for his efforts.

In addition, Charl Schwartzel’s Stinger team emerged victorious in the team competition, earning the all-South African quartet an extra $3 million ($750 000 or R12 million) each.

South African golfers dominated the leaderboard with Hennie du Plessis finishing second on 6-under par and Branden Grace in a tie for third with American Peter Uihlein, one shot further adrift.

All three were members of the Stinger team who were by some distance the strongest team, winning by a ridiculous 14 shots.

The fourth and final member was team captain Louis Oosthuizen who finished on 1-over par in a tie for 11th.
