Wits coach Gavin Hunt criticised the “disgraceful execution” of his team even though they beat lowly Chippa United 2-0 on Friday to take a three-point lead in the PSL.
Lehlohonolo Majoro put Wits ahead in Johannesburg on the rebound in the 29th minute after his penalty was saved and Thabang Monare fired home a free-kick after 62 minutes to seal the points, but they missed a host of chances that would have made the victory more emphatic.
“We have to do better in the final third of the pitch,” said the 54-year-old, who has won four league titles as a coach, three with SuperSport United and one with Wits.
“The title race is close this season and could be decided by goal difference — we should have won by five or six goals tonight.”
Wits have 30 points from 15 matches halfway through the season, Orlando Pirates 27, Polokwane City 23 and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United 22 each.
