Manchester United have lowly West Brom in the cross-hairs on Sunday as they look to extend their five-match winning run.

Jose Mourinho’s side even managed to ruin the party for rivals Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend.

And boy did they do it the hard way.

An atrocious first half saw the Red Devils two goals down thanks to Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan.

But much-criticized Paul Pogba struck twice after the break, with Chris Smalling adding the third in a famous 3-2 success.

Swansea, Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Chelsea have also been vanquished in the sequence.

It’s a puzzle, then, that United remain 13 points behind Pep Guardiola’s leaders with six games to go.

West Brom are, not to put too fine a point on it, screwed.

A season-long waking nightmare has left them ten points adrift of safety and with time running out on the hangman’s watch.

Hapless boss Alan Pardew was finally put out of his misery, with club stalwart Darren Moore stepping into the technical area for the time being.

He masterminded (if we can be so bold) a 1-1 draw with Swansea last weekend, which at least halted a run of eight straight EPL losses.

You can barely say they’re playing for pride given the calamitous nature of their campaign so far.

But it could be a final chance to step out at Old Trafford for a while, which must give something of a boost to the boys in blue and white.

Probably anyway.

Manchester United team and injury news

Phil Jones and Daley Blind are nearing their comebacks, although this weekend probably comes just too soon.

Romelu Lukaku should be available to lead the line after being ill during the week.

West Brom team and injury news

Jonny Evans is a doubt to face his former club due to a knee injury.

Nacer Chadli and Sam Field came through an Under 23s game unscathed in midweek, with Daniel Sturridge also expected to be fit.
