Manchester United resume their charge for second in the Premier League with a home game against Swansea.

The Red Devils were on a red-hot run before breaking off for the FA Cup and international break.

It’s now three weeks since arch-rivals Liverpool were dispensed with at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford scored a first half double as Jose Mourinho’s men stole a march on the Reds with a 2-1 victory.

Fellow top four challengers Chelsea were also seen off on home turf, with Nemanja Matic scoring the dramatic winner in a 3-2 success at Crystal Palace in between.

That three-match winning streak leaves United two points above Liverpool, who have also played a game more.

Visitors Swansea have far more modest ambitions.

But the Welsh side aren’t half enjoying life under charismatic boss Carlos Carvalhal.

Not content with resurrecting the Swans from dead last in the EPL, the Portuguese coach has helped them up to 14th in the table.

A scoreless draw at Huddersfield last time out backed up a handsome 4-1 home mauling of sorry West Ham.

Ki Sung-yueng, Mike van der Hoorn, Andy King and Jordan Ayew provided the goals as the Hammers stamped on the self-destruct button at the Liberty Stadium.

Still only three points is keeping Swansea above the dotted line of doom, such was their shambolic start to the season.

And they’re going to have to be on top form to come away from Manchester with so much as a survival-boosting point.

Manchester United team and injury news

Paul Pogba could come back from a three-game spell in the wilderness thanks to Scott McTominay’s calf injury.

Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Ashley Young should all be fit to take part this weekend.

Swansea team and injury news

The frustrating Renato Sanches is ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Jordan Ayew continues to serve his suspension.
