Manchester City lie in wait as Brighton step into the Etihad Stadium lair on Saturday in the Premier League.

The reigning champions are once again the leading scorers in the EPL after the first six games of the new season.

Only a hiccup at promoted Wolves has denied them maximum points and a place alongside impeccable Liverpool at the top of the table.

Since then Pep Guardiola’s men have racked up three straight wins, with Newcastle and Fulham both swatted aside at the Etihad.

And they went berserk to seal a 5-0 victory at struggling Cardiff last weekend.

Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva put City into the ascendancy, before Ilkay Gundogan lashed into the top right-hand corner just before half time.

Substitute Riyad Mahrez went on to add a brace of his own the other side of the break to seal a thumping success in south Wales.

Brighton, by stark contrast, are four games without a win in the Premier League.

Chris Hughton’s side were beaten 2-1 at the AMEX Stadium by Tottenham in last Saturday’s late kick off.

Anthony Knockaert gave Spurs an injury time scare, but Hughton was unable to mastermind an upset against his former club.

It would have been a third successive 2-2 comeback draw had the Seagulls managed it.

Veteran striker Glenn Murray had struck late penalties against both Southampton and Fulham to seal points in their previous two games.

But they have only five points to show for their first six assignments – and now they face their most difficult of the lot.

Manchester City team and injury news

Riyad Mahrez could earn a start after impressing off the bench last weekend.

Kevin De Bruyne, Eliaquim Managala and Claudio Bravo remain long-term absentees for City.

Jose Izquierdo is on the mend following his spell on the sidelines, Florin Andone could be in line for his debut.
