South African star UFC fighter Dricus du Plessis has had to pull out of his upcoming middleweight fight at UFC 269 due to an undisclosed injury.

South African star UFC fighter Dricus du Plessis has had to pull out of his upcoming middleweight fight at UFC 269 due to an undisclosed injury.

Du Plessis took to his Instagram account to confirm the unfortunate news, writing: What’s up everyone, absolutely sucks to be making this announcement but my fight 11 December is off. I got injured the first week of fightcamp and I’m scheduled for surgery this Friday.

Sorry to everyone that was looking foward to watch me fight,this is a minor setback on the way to gold and I will come back stronger than ever.

Thank you everyone for the amazing love and support, I’ll be ready to be back in the Octagon March 2022.

Dricus du Plessis was due to fight Brazil’s Andre Muniz.

“Stillknocks” has four straight victories, including a pair of finishes of Markus Perez and, most recently at UFC 264Trevin Giles.

UFC 269 on Saturday, 11 December, will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier.

Du Plessis duly underwent surgery on his right arm / shoulder at the Netcare Rosebank Hospital.
