Women’s T20 World Cup pool leaders England bowl out Ireland

England have beaten Ireland by 4 wickets in Paarl to remain unbeaten in the Women’s T20 World Cup and top their pool.

England have beaten Ireland by 4 wickets in Paarl to remain unbeaten in the Women’s T20 World Cup and top their pool.

Ireland won the toss and opted to bat first. The trend of winning the toss and losing the game persists.

Ireland all out for 105

Ireland we looking to do well in their opening game after beating Australia in the warm ups. Alas, despite a reasonable start only the top four batters were able to make it to double figures. Gaby Lewis top scored with 36 off 37 deliveries and Orla Prendergast managed 17 of 15. Ireland’s innings ended with them all out for 105 in just 18.2 overs.

All but one of England’s bowlers took wickets. Sophie Ecclestone took 3/ 13. Sarah Glenn finished with 3/19. Charlie Dean got 2/26. Katherine Sciver-Brunt bagged 1/14 and Lauren Bell ended the innings with 1/17.

England look to boost their net run rate

Player of the Match, Alice Capsey sent the ball flying hitting ten 4’s and a 6 to get her 51 runs off just 22 ball- the joint fastest half century in the Women’s T20 World Cup. The rest of the team shared in the runs with Danni Wyatt’s 16 off 13 and Heather Knight scoring 14 of 23. Their innings total was 107/6 in 14.2 overs. England won by 4 wickets.

Cara Murray was the go to bowler for Ireland with 3 wickets for 15 runs. Orla Prendergast got 1/13 and Arlene Kelly picked up 1/19. The remaining wicket was the result of f run out.

Ireland travel to Cape town to face Pakistan on Wednesday, 15 February at 19h00. Pool toppers England travel to Gqeberha to take on India on Saturday, 18 February at 15h00.
