South Africa beat England into the Women’s T20 World Cup Final

South Africa beat England by 6 runs in the last over to win the second semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup to gain entry into the final.

South Africa beat England by 6 runs in the last over to win the second semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup to gain entry into the final on Sunday, 26 February.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first.

South Africa build an innings

South Africa has not lost a wicket in the last three power plays as the openers gave themselves time, an unusual tactic in a T20. Both openers justified the slow start by scoring half-centuries. Tamzin Brits top scored with 68 off 55. Laura Wolvaardt scored 53 off 44 and Marizanne Kapp saw the innings out with 27* off 13. The South African innings ended with them 164/4.

Rugby World Cup-winning captain Siya Kolisi is 100% behind the ladies in the game and made time to attend the game.

Sophie Ecclestone stamped her authority on the game, showing why she is the number one bowler in the world. She ended the innings with 3/22. Laura bell took the only other wicket with 1/21.

England come out swinging

Scoring at 10 plus an over for the first five overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt top scored 40 off 34. Danni Wyatt made 34 off 30 and captain Heather Knight made 31 off 25 taking the game into the final over. In their 20 overs England made 158/8, 6 runs short of the target.

Ayabonga Khaka was on fire taking three wickets in the 18th over and taking 4/29 in the game. Shabnim Ismail opened the game up taking timely wickets ending with 3/27 and Nadine de Klerk took 1 wicket for 17 runs. Player of the Match and superwoman, Tazmin Brits took four catches, one of which may just be the catch of the tournament.

What’s next in the Women’s T20 World Cup?

South Africa, in their first final, will take on Australia, the reigning champions who have never lost a game on South African soil, in the final on Sunday, 26 February at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town at 15h00.
