After claiming a memorable 2-1 Test series win over India, there will be great anticipation when the Proteas resume duty in the Test format.

Despite the case of “gross misconduct” against coach Mark Boucher overshadowing proceedings, all the other signs suggest the Proteas are a team on the rise.

On Thursday, 17 February, the Proteas will return to action as they take on World Test Championship winners New Zealand in the first Test in Christchurch, which will begin in the early hours of the morning (SA time).

Unfortunately for the Proteas, it was recently confirmed that Keegan Petersen will unfortunately miss the tour to New Zealand after testing positive for COVID-19.

REVEALED: CURRENT PLAYERS TO TESTIFY ON BEHALF OF BOUCHER!

“Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) medical team will keep in close contact with him to ensure his physical and mental well-being,” a statement read.

Western Province batsman, Zubayr Hamza, will replace him for the tour. However, it’s a massive blow for the Proteas after Keegan Petersen emerged as the Man of the Series against India, having ended the three-Test tour as the leading run-scorer, with 276 at an average of 46.00.

In team management news, South Africa A team coach, Malibongwe Maketa and physiotherapist, Brent Martin will join the Proteas, replacing Rivash Gobind and Craig Govender, who are going on leave.
