It was a day to forget for the Proteas in the second Test against Australia on Tuesday, with the hosts cruising to a total of 386-3, which they later extended to 575-8 before declaring.

During a tiresome day in the field for the Proteas, there was also a bizarre incident as the Spidercam collided with Nortje during a brief pause in play.

Quite unbelievably, footage showed the camera zipping along around head height before colliding with Nortje, who rolled to the ground before gesticulating in shock.

Of course, no serious injury was sustained, but it still has to be one of the strangest incidents seen on a cricket field.

Nortje has since spoken about the strange moment, and confirmed that the broadcasters had apologised to him.

“The one thing we’ve spoken about was how low the camera is,” Nortje said. “Unless it is for certain interviews, I don’t think it should be traveling at head height. That’s my opinion and one also has to take Marco Jansen into consideration

“I didn’t know what hit me, to be honest. It didn’t change my mindset. I tried to remain focused when the captain asked me to bowl, so I was ready at the moment. I won’t say my mindset changed. It was more or less the same.”
