Khaya Zondo marked a return to form by bringing up three figures against the Cobras on the second day of Round Three of the CSA 4-Day Series.

Following Aiden Markram’s heroics against the Warriors on the opening day, the 30-year-old was the second forgotten Protea to reach the milestone in the ongoing game week.

Two teams finished Day Two in a commanding position, while in the other match venue, things could go either way with two days left to play.

Dolphins vs Cobras at Kingsmead, Durban

One of the franchises that will go to bed smiling is the Dolphins, who declared at 389 for eight, thanks to Zondo’s ton.

Early contributions from fellow Protea, Senuran Muthusamy and skipper Marques Ackerman had laid the foundation on the first day.

At stumps, the Cobras were at 71 for the loss, with Isma-eel Gafaldien back in the hut after edging to Ackerman off Muthusamy’s bowling.

The men from the Cape will resume their innings with Test pair Pieter Malan and Zubayr Hamza at 33 and 22, respectively.

Lions vs Knights at The Wanderers, Johannesburg

After Day One ended with things evenly-poised, the in-form Knights broke away from the Lions, finishing the second day with a lead of 209 in their second innings, with nine wickets still in hand.

The visitors worked their way to 300 in the second morning before Magala grabbed his sixth wicket.

What looked like a modest total was made to appear daunting by the Lions, who never got going, with no batsman reaching a half-century as they fell 98 runs short.

Migael Pretorius was the pick of the Knights bowlers, grabbing four wickets for 40, while Mbulelo Budaza and Gerald Coetzee each took two scalps apiece.

Titans vs Warriors at Supersport Park, Centurion

The Warriors are on the verge of taking the lead against the Titans, thanks to a spirited lower middle-order fightback led by the still unbeaten Sinethemba Qeshile.

In response to the hosts’ Markram-inspired 320, Yaseen Vallie top-scored with 80, helped along by Matthew Breetzke (53), before Qeshile and Lesiba Ngoepe stirred the Warriors to within one run of the Titans total, with 67-not-out and 52 respectively.

The Warriors are yet to taste victory in the ongoing season of the 4-Day Series.
