SA-born David Bedingham plunders 257 for Durham in county clash

SA-born David Bedingham has struck the second-highest score in Durham’s first-class history in their County Championship match against Derbyshire.

South African-born David Bedingham has struck the second-highest score in Durham’s first-class history to put them firmly in command of their County Championship Group One match against Derbyshire at Chester-le-Street.

His innings of 257, which included 33 fours off 410 deliveries faced, enabled Durham to post 475.

Bedingham’s career-best knock, spread across a nine-hour marathon at the crease, was just short of Martin Love’s record 273 for Durham against Hampshire 18 years ago.

David Bedingham, who celebrated his 27th birthday on 22 April, was born in George and educated at Wynberg Boys’ High School.

He holds United Kingdom ancestry visa and thus qualifies as a local player on the county scene.

He played for Northerns, Boland, Western Province and the Cape Cobras before signing for Durban ahead of the start of the 2020/21 season.
