India vs South Africa LIVE scores: This was a crunch match for the Proteas side after a non-ideal start to the Super 12s.

David Miller hit 59 not out as South Africa beat India by five wickets at the Twenty20 World Cup in Perth on Sunday to brighten their semi-finals hopes.

South Africa kept down India to 133-9 and then reached their target with two balls to spare largely due to a 76-run stand between Aiden Markram (52) and Miller. It put South Africa top of Group 2 on five points, one ahead of India and Bangladesh.

India had notched two wins, but South Africa moved above them to the top of their Super 12s group with the win.

Rilee Rossouw was the form man for the Proteas coming into this match enjoying a month where he has scored two T20I centuries, but he was dismissed early in a nervous chase along with Quinton de Kock.

Miller had also put a ton to his name this month and both he and Rossouw notched their three figures against self-same India in India.

It was the veteran left-hander’s composure that made all the difference and strengthened the Proteas’ position in the tournament.

Earlier Lungi Ngidi set up the Proteas well with a four-wicket haul, with the Proteas showing a desire to get at the batsmen.

Speaking after the match Temba Bavuma said: “We were watching the games that were played here. Obviously it was risky but the variable bounce assisted us. We kept mid-off and mid-on up, which made us predictable but we backed ourselves. We came into the tournament as non-favourites and we will keep flying under the radar. We will keep improving and that’s what we are doing.”

South Africa must yet again ask if there is space for Temba Bavuma in their best T20I XI.

Pitch report

The old WACA pitch was known for pace, bounce and carry but that hasn’t translated at the Optus Stadium, the new venue of choice in Perth.

The wicket is expected to favour seamers but that doesn’t give either side an advantage considering they both have plenty in that department.

A score of 150 plus should be defendable.
