The Proteas Women came into Friday’s semi-final as rank underdogs, with England having won the vast majority of previous T20 games between these two sides.

However, in front of a passionate Cape Town crowd, the Proteas Women rose to the occasion in quite sensational fashion.

Superb half centuries from Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits, as well as a cameo from Marizanne Kapp, enabled South Africa to set a highly competitive 164/4.

England did get off to a rollicking start when they came in to bat, but brilliant bowling from Shabnim Ismail changed the momentum of the match.

Ayabonga Khaka and Nadine de Klerk were also simply sensational as the Proteas Women held their nerve for a quite remarkable six-run victory.

On Thursday, Australia had booked their spot in the T20 World Cup title decider after claiming a thrilling win over India, but they will surely be wary of a never-say-die South African side on home soil.

The hugely anticipated final will take place on Sunday, 26 February at the same venue.
