Proteas turn to ‘enforcer’ Daryn Dupavillon as HALF the team leaves for IPL

Fast bowler Daryn Dupavillon is set to come into the Proteas starting XI for the third and deciding ODI against Pakistan in Centurion on Wednesday, 7 April.

The home team will be missing five players – Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje – who did duty in the first two matches of the series as they have already left to join their respective teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
With speedsters Rabada, Ngidi and Nortje absent, Daryn Dupavillon will have to take up the baton of unsettling the visitors’ batting line-up with his pace.
Nortje has done that so far in the series, taking seven wickets for 114 runs in his 20 overs and really making the Pakistan batsmen uncomfortable.

Proteas bowling Charl Langeveldt confirmed that the home team will look to Daryn Dupavillon to play the same ‘enforcer’ role on Wednesday.
Dolphins paceman Daryn Dupavillon has played one ODI, against Australia in Potchefstroom last year, returning figures of 1-21 in six overs on the day.

Speaking to reporters, Langeveldt said: “To replace Anrich we need an enforcer, someone with good pace and that’s Daryn Dupavillon.
“He must be the enforcer now and do Anrich’s job. Daryn is quick and skiddy and brings something different, he takes wickets.
“He’s been brilliant in the nets, showing a lot of skill and pace. If we can bowl well in the middle overs and take wickets then hopefully that takes care of the back end.”

Langeveldt added that he was pleased with the work being done by all the bowlers on their death bowling and said the fringe players now have a massive opportunity to stake a claim in a high-stakes match.
Keshav Maharaj is also set to replace Tabraiz Shamsi as the spinner as the Proteas look to deepen their batting line-up.

“Our skill at the back end is better, but we still need a lot of improvement if we’re going to win a World Cup,” Langeveldt said.
“At the end of the day it’s about executing well under pressure, and that comes with playing more games.
“So it’s a massive loss losing Rabada, Nortje and Ngidi to the IPL, but it’s an opportunity for the guys on the fringes to step up and do well.”
