Proteas latest: Aiden Markram, spinners help SA crush Afghanistan in T20 World Cup warm-up

The Proteas got some valuable time out in the middle as they eased to victory over Afghanistan in a T20 World Cup warm-up match in Abu Dhabi.

The Proteas got some valuable time out in the middle as they eased to a 41-run win over Afghanistan in a T20 World Cup warm-up match in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

Aiden Markram top-scored with 48 off 35 balls while captain Temba Bavuma, having his first bat since returning from fracturing his thumb, hit 31 off 39 balls as the Proteas posted 145/5.

David Miller found some sort of form towards the back-end of the innings with an unbeaten 20 off 10 balls to give the South Africans some momentum.

The Proteas bowlers were in control from the start of the run-chase with the three slow-bowlers again instrumental as Afghanistan were restricted to 104/8 in their 20 overs.

Keshav Maharaj (1/14 in 4), Tabraiz Shamsi (3/19 in 4) and Bjorn Fortuin (1/21 in 4) all looked in good nick.

Seamers Lungi Ngidi (2/27 in 4) and Dwaine Pretorius (1/30 in 4) also got in the wickets column with Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje being rested.

The Proteas have another warm-up game against Pakistan on Wednesday, 20 October before taking on Australia in their World Cup opener on Saturday, 23 October.
