Former Proteas Test captain Quinton de Kock was granted a “mental break” from the sport – and as predicted, he went fishing.

Former Proteas Test captain Quinton de Kock was granted a “mental break” from the sport followed South Africa’s recent 2-0 Test defeat to Pakistan.

De Kock stepped down as skipper following the historic series loss and upon the team’s arrival back in the country, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the SA Cricketers’ Association (SACA) issued a joint statement confirmed the 28-year-old would skip the upcoming domestic Twenty20 tournament on medical advice.

The South African website suggested that one shouldn’t be surprised to see the avid fisherman on the waters of Knysna Lagoon in the coming days and weeks.

And as if we had a crystal ball, that’s exactly what’s transpired!

Quinton de Kock took to his Instagram account on Thursday to post a picture of his holding a “PB Garrick today” and tagged the post with Knysna, Western Cape.

The garrick – or leerfish – is native to the coastal waters of eastern South Africa. They can reach up to 1.5 metres in length and more than 30kg in weight.

Quinto de Kock did not mention the size of his catch, but a PB is a PB!
