Marizanne Kapp bowls over Gujarat Giants with fiver in WPL

The Delhi Capitals beat the Gujarat Giants in the WPL as Marizanne Kapp tore through the line up getting 5/15 with 4 wickets in the powerplay.

The Delhi Capitals easily beat the Gujarat Giants in the WPL after Marizanne Kapp tore through their line up getting 5/15 with 4 wickets in the powerplay.

Gujarat Giants won the toss and elected to bat first.

Gujarat Giants stumble to 105/9

Laura Wolvaardt’s first outing in the WPL was brief with the bat. She made only 1 run off 2 balls before countrywoman Marizanne Kapp dislodged the bails. Kim Garth was unbeaten on 32* off 37. Georgia Wareham scored 22 off 25 and Harleen Deol made 20 off 14. The Gujarat Giants managed to bat out their 20 overs getting to 105/9.

The limiting factor in the innings was Marizanne Kapp. She singlehandedly bowled out half their team. Literally, she took five wickets for 15 runs in her allotted four overs including both openers. Three were clean bowled and two lbw’s. Kapp currently holds the record for bowling figured in the WPL.

Shrikha Pandey was good in her own right with 3/26 and Radha Yadav picked up 1/19.

Delhi Capitals need just 7.1 overs to win

Both openers were not out at the end of the game. Shafali Verma scored a lightning-quick 76* off 28 balls. Meg Lanning hit 21 off 15. they made 107/0 in just 7.1 overs to win the game by 10 wickets.

Marizanne Kapp

With her 5/15 she has broken the record for the best bowling figures in the tournament thus far. The all-rounder has had one good outing with the bat but her performance with the ball has justified her price tag.
