There’s a ‘Zulu’ in Zimbabwe’s coaching set-up

Former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener has rejoined Zimbabwe’s national cricket team as its batting coach.

Former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener has rejoined Zimbabwe’s national cricket team as its batting coach.

The appointment was confirmed on Monday by the Zimbabwe Cricket board on its official website.

Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed that Klusener, who performed the same role between 2016-2018, would be taking over from Stuart Matsikenyeri.

Matsikenyeri has moved into the position of assistant coach, while Lalchand Rajput remains the team’s head coach.

Klusener, who was affectionately known as ‘Zulu’ during his playing days, most recently was head coach of the Afghanistan national team.

Zimbabwe Cricket added that it was in the process of finalising the appointment of a bowling coach and a fitness trainer for the national team.

Klusener, 50, played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for the Proteas between 1996 and 2004.
