South African-born England cricket great Kevin Pietersen has expressed his disbelief at the shock death of his close friend Shane Warne with a one-word tweet.

Pietersen, who was born in Pietermaritzburg before moving to England for whom he played 104 Tests and 134 ODIs, tweeted: ‘F***’ when the news broke followed by a string of crying emojis and the hashtag #RIPKing.‘ 

Shane Warne not the only death on tragic day for cricket

Kevin Pietersen posted a longer tweet earlier in the day after confirmation of the death of another cricketing legend, Australia’s Rod Marsh at age 74, also following a heart attack.

‘KP’ posted: With great sadness I write this. To wake up & hear that Rod Marsh has left us, is horrible.
The time I had with him as my boss in Englands academy, was some of the best times in my career.
