When Lokesh Rahul blazed his way to a phenomenal century it seemed the Kings XI Punjab were cruising to victory over the Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2019 meeting.

The Wankhede appreciated the knock from the India stalwart who looks to be pressing his case for World Cup inclusion if he hasn’t already secured his seat.

Rahul was assisted up front by a typically brutal knock from Universe Boss Chris Gayle.

Watch Gayle smoke 22 off one over:

Rahul has taken some criticism for not playing a big knock for the Kings XI but he came good in spectacular style in Mumbai on Wednesday night.

He took 41 balls to get to fifty but after reaching the milestone he put pedal to the metal plundering his second fifty off just 23 balls. Rahul hit six fours and six sixes on his way to a maiden IPL ton.

The Kings XI Punjab set the Mumbai Indians a stiff 198 to win in their 20 overs.

KL Rahul’s majestic ton:

The Kings XI’s Mohammed Shami piled further pressure onto the Mumbai Indians with a brilliant spell of bowling up front.

Shami bagged 3/21 including the wickets of openers Siddesh Lad and the dangerous Pandya brothers.

Watch highlights of Shami’s miserly spell:

With the Indians in trouble Kieron Pollard strode to the wicket and smashed an incredible 83 off just 31 balls including ten sixes.

Pollard lost his wicket in a dramatic final over but Mumbai managed to get over the line in the end for their fourth win of the season. The big West Indian dedicated the performance to his wife on her birthday.
