The Proteas series against West Indies women has seen its schedule revised with Cricket South Africa (CSA) making the announcement on Wednesday.

The tour will now consist of five matches, including a warm-up contest and four Women’s One-Day Internationals, to be played between 25 January and 6 February.

CSA confirmed that all matches will be hosted in a bio-secure environment (BSE) at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Series schedule revised

The revised series will be the Proteas’ second consecutive 50-over series against the Caribbean visitors after the two sides played in a five–match series in the West Indies in September last year.

South Africa came within a Super over of completing an historic clean sweep, but still won the series 4-1.

Both sides will want to make the most of their new schedule to finalise their last preparations before travelling to New Zealand for the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup which takes place from 4 March to 3 April.

“CSA is extremely excited to be able to confirm the schedule for the West Indies tour to South Africa during a critical time for the Momentum Proteas side as they strive to make history in this year’s World Cup,” said CSA director of cricket Graeme Smith.

“Following lengthy and constructive engagements between CSA and CWI, all parties are delighted to confirm the fixtures that will allow both nations to play during these challenging times of the pandemic and get the required amount of cricket in the players’ legs before a major tournament.”

“The Momentum Proteas had an exceptional year in 2021 – ending it as the second-ranked team on the ICC rankings in the ODI format – and it is important to continue that momentum with a significant series against quality opposition,” added Smith.
