Bangladesh have defeated Zimbabwe by 220 runs on the final day of their one-off Test at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday 11 July 2021.

Needing to chase down a world record 477 runs to win, Zimbabwe were all out for 256 despite resolute resistance from Donald Tiripano and Blessing Muzarabani that kept the tourists waiting for their win.

Bangladesh built their advantage of the back of a superb 150 not out from Mahmudullah in the first innings. The batsmen would announce a shock retirement from the Test format during the match, taking some lustre off the efforts.

Brendan Taylor scored 81 and 92 in the Test match but felt he had missed out on an opportunity to get his team back into the game.

“I got out at the wrong time, and I felt that I left so many runs out there. It is hurting me at the moment, but there are guys that I have a lot of faith in, as well. It is frustrating (to miss out on the hundred) when you are going that well. You want to kick on (and score the hundred) obviously. From the team’s perspective, it was crucial that I stayed out there for a longer period,” Taylor said after day four.

Zimbabwe provided brave resistance but on a fifth day pitch Mehidy Hasan came into his own and finished the hosts off with his 4 for 66.
