England batsman Zak Crawley’s massive 267 saw him shoot up in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings after the drawn final Test against Pakistan in Southampton.

Veteran England seamer James Anderson was the big gainer among the bowlers after his match haul of seven wickets.

Crawley surges up ICC Test rankings

Crawley rose 53 spots to reach a career-best 28th position after recording the tenth highest individual score for England and the second-highest maiden Test century for his country.

The 22-year-old started the series in 95th position on the ICC Test rankings but his 320-run aggregate has made him the fourth-best ranked England batsman after eight Test matches, behind only Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Jos Buttler.

Anderson breaks barriers

Evergreen Anderson moved back to the top-10 bowlers on the ICC Test rankings after briefly dropping out of the elite after the series against the West Indies.

The former number-one-ranked bowler gained six ranking spots to reach eighth position after a match that saw him grab his 29th five-wicket haul in the first innings and become the first fast bowler to take 600 Test wickets when he claimed Pakistan captain Azhar Ali’s scalp in the second innings.

The Buttler did it

Wicketkeeper batsman Buttler is another player to make notable progress in the latest ICC Test Rankings update after scoring a fine 152 in England’s only innings of the Test. Buttler has reached a career-best 637 rating points and 21st position, three off his best of 18th achieved in November 2018.

Ben Stokes ceded the top spot for all-rounders to Jason Holder after missing two Test matches for personal reasons, he dropped one point behind the Windies skipper.

For each Test a player misses they lose one per cent each of their batting and bowling points with a cumulative effect of about two per cent on their all-round rating.

Pakistan players progress

For Pakistan, captain Azhar’s return to form with a solid 141 in the first innings saw him gain 11 places and achieve 23rd position on the ICC Test rankings, while wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has gained three slots to reach 72nd position after a fighting half-century in the first innings.

Part-time spinners Fawad Alam and Asad Shafiq have cracked the top 100 bowlers on the ICC Test Rankings. Fawad has gained 22 slots to reach 94th position while Asad has moved up nine places to 100th place.
