Storm in a mint tea cup, redux.

ICC tells Faf: You have right

This whole storm in a mint tea cup thing just won’t go away. First, Faf du Plessis’ teammates stood by him defiantly and called the allegations a “joke”, then a reported tried to doorstep Du Plessis and got donnered.

The ICC found Du Plessis guilty of breaching their code of conduct before the third and final Test in Adelaide and, in their original release, made it clear that he has the right to appeal. Du Plessis has now officially appealed and the ICC say they are “disappointed” that he did…in an official release.

The release said: “The ICC is disappointed that Faf du Plessis has chosen not to accept the findings of Match Referee Andy Pycroft and will instead exercise his right to appeal. A Judicial Commissioner will now be appointed to hear the appeal at the earliest opportunity.”

So, basically…

ICC: You have the right to appeal.
Faf: *appeals*
ICC: We’re disappointed that you used your rights.

The ICC remain defiant in this and although it is understood that they might consider looking at the definition of the law around “artificial substances” used to  shine the ball, for now they remain resolute in their approach.

Why even bother having an appeals process at all then?
