EWN reported on Friday that a former South African cricketer, whom they have not named, reportedly abducted and assaulted a 14-year old boy in Pinelands on Wednesday.

Police confirmed to EWN that a case has been opened against a 35-year old man. EWN described the player as a “well-known” former cricketer.

When contacted by EWN, the player in question denied these claims, saying he had taken the boy to his school to report him for swearing and throwing little stones at his vehicle.

According to EWN, the boys had been shouting at passing cars when the cricketer grabbed him by the throat and asked what the boy had said.

A group of witnesses tried to intervene, but claim the man had put the child in his vehicle and drove around with him for several minutes all while allegedly assaulting him.

The child was reportedly treated at a nearby hospital for cuts and bruises.

The man in question has not been arrested, but has been requested to appear in court next week.
