England outshine West Indies to win Women’s T20 by 7 wickets

The West Indies won the toss, elected to bat but England dominated to take the lead in their group in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

The West Indies won the toss, elected to bat but England dominated to take the lead in their group in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

West Indies post 135/7

Opener Hayley Matthews set the tone for the innings getting 42 runs off 32 balls. Shemaine Campbelle also scored a solid 34 off 37. Wickets fell with regularity but the team managed to reach a competitive total, in this Women’s T20 World Cup, of 135.

Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 23 runs in her four overs. Sarah Glenn took 1/20 and Katherine Sciver-Brunt also picked up 1/23. The fielders played their part too, with a couple of runouts at key moments.

England win Women’s T20 in15 overs

After the break, Sophia Dunkley attacked the chase scoring a quick 34 off 18 deliveries at a strike rate of 188.88. Player of the Match, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight took England home both ending “not out” with 40 off 30 and 32 off 22 respectively. In just 14.3 overs they scored 138/3 to win the game by 7 wickets.

Chinelle Henry ended with 2 wickets for 30 runs in 3.3 overs. Afy Fletcher took the remaining wicket with 1 for 22 in 3 overs.
