Former Proteas seamer Dale Steyn laid into Cricket South Africa after the Indian Premier League (IPL) final on Friday.

CSA’s official twitter handle sent out a tweet congratulating Chennai Super Kings on their title win, tagging Lungi Ngidi in the post but failing to mention Proteas stalwarts Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir who were also part of the squad.

Du Plessis himself chimed in, having top-scored for CSK in the final and been one of the most consistent performers throughout the tournament.

While Tahir didn’t play in the final, neither did Ngidi, who hasn’t actually turned out for the franchise since May, which makes one wonder if the CSA media team even had anyone watching the game itself.

In response to the CSA tweet, Steyn wrote: “Who’s running this account? Last I checked Faf isn’t even retired, Imran isn’t retired, both these guys have given years of service to CSA and they not worth a mention? Disgusting.”

He added: “CSA opening a can of worms for themselves with their Twitter and Instagram. Whoever’s running those accounts needs a talking too.

“CSA now blocked the comments section. Here’s some advice. Do the right thing. Delete the post and add all the men involved, save yourself the embarrassment and ridicule.”

Du Plessis and Tahir have been frozen out of the national team setup despite still being available for selection in T20Is, with neither involved in the build-up to the T20 World Cup. After the final, Du Plessis was named Man of the Match and won the Gamechanger of the match award.

At the time of writing Cricket South Africa had yet to issue a formal response to what is either a massive bungle or a deliberate slight against two icons of Proteas cricket.

EDIT: CSA have since published a message of congratulations that acknowledges du Plessis’ efforts, which can be seen below.
