The new format adopted for the 2019 edition of the Cricket World Cup means that India will face all nine other contenders, but their fourth fixture in the competition stands out more than the others.

On 16 July, the 2011 champions renew their rivalry with neighbours Pakistan in Manchester, in what has, over the years, been the tournament’s marquee fixture.

India will be looking to protect their unbeaten World Cup record against the old enemy, as well as look to avenge the disappointment of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, where Pakistan scored a rare victory in the final to clinch the big prize.

However, immediate focus will be on the matches prior to that, which are equally as important although not carrying even a fraction of the political significance an India vs Pakistan fixture bears.

Led by Virat Kohli, they kick off their campaign at the Rose Bowl against South Africa before the Australiasian challenge of Australia and New Zealand, who they face in back-to-back matches.

Other notable dates include the last day of June, where they square off against hosts and pre-tournament England at Edgbaston before concluding the round robin stage with matches against rivals from the subcontinent Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
