Cosatu calls Nick Mallett “racist”, demands rugby be broadcast on SABC

Free to air rugby is a good point though…

Never shy of looking for a way to score points a few political points, Cosatu has demanded that Saturday’s match between the Springboks and All Blacks is broadcast live on the SABC.

The match will be live on SuperSport with a delayed broadcast to follow on the national broadcaster.

Cosatu has been running a sort of campaign that demands that all national sport be broadcast on the SABC, so this is a continuation of that theme.

In a statement released by the organisation’s Western Cape administration, it said:

“They [people without dstv subs] only get to see the game after it has been played because DStv has the rights. National sports that must inspire the whole nation must be shown live on SABC, as it is a national sport of all the people.”

How exactly the Boks are going to inspire anyone if they play like they did the last time they faced New Zealand, we’re not sure, but anyway.

Previously, the trade union previously threatened to “disrupt” all national games should their demands not be adhered to.

But this time, Cosatu went one step further – slamming both Naas Botha and Nick Mallet.

“The commentators like Naas Botha and Nick Mallett are outdated and should be replaced. Nick Mallett also has a habit of promoting white players and talking black players down, because he suits the Stellenbosch mafia’s agenda. Mallett should be removed for this racism and clear unbiased reporting of the game.”

Cosatu has demanded a response from the sports ministry by Tuesday to have the game aired on the SABC, or it will launch an international campaign calling for SA rugby to be blacklisted.
