Chiefs suffer record 12th defeat 

Kaizer Chiefs failed to beat a 10-man Cape Town City side to finish their 2022/23 campaign with three defeats in a row

Kaizer Chiefs suffered their 12th defeat of the season following a 1-0 defeat against Cape Town City at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

A defeat sees Amakhosi finish fifth in the DStv Premiership and will see them face-off against Cape Town City in the MTN8 next season.

Chiefs failed to beat a 10-man City

City scored the opening goal inside the 10th through Mduduzi Mdantsane after he was assisted by Khnayisa Mayo. After that, it looked like City will get their second they kept coming at the Chiefs defence.

City defenderTaariq Fielies received a straight red card in the 34th minute to give Chiefs a lifeline.

Chiefs has most of the possession in the second-half but City looked more likely to score from the counter-attack. Eventually the away side held on for the win to climb to fourth on the log.

Chiefs on the otherhand, finished the season on 5th having suffered a record 12 defeats in 30 games.

Speaking after the game, Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane said it hasn’t been a good season for his side.

“I’m never gonna be happy especially when we had the opportunity to win matches. We gave up a lot of games and conceded soft goals in some of the matches like today,” he said.

Asked if Chiefs will rebuild next season, Zwane said he will have to sit down with management.

“it down with management and decide who will be in the team going forward.”

Zwane has been underpressure recently having lost his last three games for Amakhosi and also losing out to Orlando Pirates in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup.
