One of the main attractions in the Mother City’s sports calender, the Cape Town Sevens has scooped up another major award.

The event was named best the Best Live Experience of 2018 in the Sports Industry Awards in Johannesburg on Friday night. This was the second year running the tournament scooped up the accolade.

SA Rugby CEO, Jurie Roux was delighted as he congratulated all those involved, including the supporters.

“We are in a market where other national codes such as cricket, soccer and netball are also putting up remarkable events, so it is great reward for us to be recognised like this. A huge thank you should go out to our supporters as well, as they make rugby the great spectacle it is.”

When is the next Cape Town Sevens?

The World Rugby Sevens Series returns once again later this year as the Blitzboks prepare to defend their title over a period of six months.

The series kicks off in Dubai on the weekend of 30 November, before the world’s best arrive in the Mother City the following weekend for the Cape Town Sevens, with the tournament starting on Saturday, 8 December.

This will be the fourth time the event is hosted in Cape Town, and it’s become so popular that, for the last edition, tickets were sold out within hours of going on sale.

Rouz said it was important that SA Rugby maintains high standards to continue bringing an experience like no other.

“We have delivered some memorable moments and events in the local sporting landscape so the challenge will be to keep on doing so.”
