Asefa Mengstu Negewu successfully defended his Cape Town Marathon title, destroying a quality field to cross the line in 2:10.01, showing once again why the event is fast establishing itself as one of the premier Marathon’s on the global stage.

By defending his title, Mengstu Negewu has confirmed his status as one of the foremost athletes in the world. Mengstu Negewu finished in 2:10.01, Ketema Negasa (2:11.06 ) and Duncan Maiyo (2:11.26) taking second and third respectively.

The women’s title went to Betelhem Moges passing pace maker and long leader Helalia Johannes in sight of the finishing Stadium. Agnes Kiprop rounding out the podium Moges time was 2:30.22, Johannes clocking 2:30.28 and Kiprop finishing in 2:31.00.

The Cape Town Marathon is the only IAAF Gold Label Marathon in Africa and attracts over 10 000 entrants, growing by the year. It has now established itself as the premier Marathon on the continent.
