Mamelodi Sundowns were the second South African team to progress through to the next round of the Caf Champions League on Wednesday, as they thumped Equatorial Guinea’s Leones Vegetarianos 5-1 at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.

The 2016 champions clinched the tie 7-1, having won 2-0 away from home in the reverse leg.

New Zealand international Jeremy Brockie continued his good form in front of goal, as he netted in once more to open the scoring in the tenth minute after go work down the left flank from Gaston Sirino.

Eight minutes later, the Uruguayan went from provider to goal-scorer when he slotted in from the spot to double the lead.

The visitors’ defence managed to hold firm for the rest of the first half, despite relentless attack from the Brazilians, and the second stanza opened with a goal of their own as they pulled one back just two minutes into the second half.

It only remained 2-1 for eight minutes, as Sundowns skipper Hlompho Kekana unleashed a trademark long-range strike to restore his side’s two-goal lead.

This was followed by another strike just five minutes later, as Jose Ali Meza ran into a Themba Zwane ball and slotted in from inside the box.

Sirino completed his brace just three minutes from time as he rounded up the scoring to give Masandawana a convincing win over the visitors.

The Tshwane giants join Orlando Pirates in the next round, after the Soweto outfit came away with a 3-1 win against Light Stars from the Seychelles earlier in the day.
