Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy is determined to get it right this time around, as his side takes on Supersport United in the MTN8 final for the second year running.

It was the Pretoria outfit that emerged victorious in last year’s edition of the competition, as they triumphed 4-2 on penalties after the contest ended tied on 1-1 in regulation time.

Now, with all roads leading to Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, the Bafana legend believes it’s the perfect time for him to pick up his first piece of silverware as coach.

“When I took the job, I said, I don’t want to be in this job for ten years, and I’m only contesting my first cup final. Fortunately, it’s only my second and twice we have been in a final,” McCarthy told SuperSport.

“Yes, I want to win it for the players, I think they deserve it. They have put in all the hard work and the effort. They deserve to be in two finals. We don’t want to become that team that gets to finals but can’t get over the line.

Cape Town City’s opponents in the final put on their best performance so far this season in their last outing, as they thumped Black Leopards 4-0 over the weekend.

The men from the Mother City sat out the weekend’s action, with their last fixture being the 2-2 draw away to Orlando Pirates where they staged a remarkable comeback to grab a point.

Benni McCarthy is under no illusions about the scale of the task at hand;

“Supersport have found their range now and the last game they clinched a 4-0 win. So it’s not going to be an easy game for us, but come Saturday it’s going to be a completely different ball game.”

The match on Saturday will kick off at 19:00, and it will be broadcast live on Supersport 4.
