The Barbarians will take on the Flying Fijians at Twickenham with the Killik Cup on the line.

The Baa-Baas are expected to play the attacking brand of rugby the club is famous for while it will be interesting to note how Fiji approach this match.

For Fiji this will be a rare opportunity for their XVs side to take centre stage in the rugby universe but the match also offers coach John Mckee the opportunity to prepare for next season’s Pacific Nations Cup.

Fiji endured a disappointing World Cup despite starting brightly in their tournament opener against Australia, McKee has opted to refresh that group and blood several youngsters.

The bulk of the Islanders squad are based in their home nation and made up the Fijian Drua squad that competed in the Australian National Rugby Championship last month, and a few from New Zealand Provinces.

The Barbarians boast six Springboks in their starting lineup including two RWC-winners in Makazole Mapimpi and Tendai Mtawarira. The prospect of Mapimpi combining with French battering-ram Mathieu Bastareaud is a tantalizing one. Barbarians coach Eddie Jones hinted that Bastareaud could also pack down in the scrum at some point. The French centre is keen to reinvent himself as a number eight in a bid to prolong his career.

Veteran Irish hooker Rory Best captains the Barbarians.

Fijian World Cup squad member Campese Maafu starts on the Barbarians bench.

Only three members of Fiji’s starting XV were in the World Cup squad. Scrumhalf Frank Lomani, prop Eroni Mawi and hooker Ratu Veremalua Vugakoto.
