The Rugby Championship, previously known as the Tri Nations, will come to Europe for the first time when Argentina and Australia face each other in a repeat of last year’s Rugby World Cup Semi Final at Twickenham Stadium. The event will take place in London on Saturday, 8 October with kick-off at 7.30pm.

The match will be the final game of the 2016 tournament, so both sides could be fighting for glory when they head to the UK. The Pumas will be out for revenge as they aim to topple the Wallabies, the current Rugby Championship title holders.

Australia’s European stars are also set to return to action for The Rugby Championship campaign after the 3-0 series loss to England last month. Head coach Michael Cheika is poised to welcome back big guns like Matt Giteau, Will Genia, Drew Mitchell and Adam Ashley-Cooper, alongside Israel Folau, Bernard Foley, David Pocock and Michael Hooper.

All four were World Cup finalists in 2015 with Ashley-Cooper scoring a hat-trick of tries in the 29-15 semi-final win against the Pumas.

Cheika said: “The plan was always to bring back the guys from Europe. I saw them all in January and asked them who wanted to keep playing and they all put their hands up to play. We gave those guys a break; you can’t play rugby for 12 months of the year and in that came the opportunity to blood some new blokes.”

Tickets are available from £45 for adults, £25 for children under 16, and a family package (2 adults and 2 children) for £115. (Booking fees apply)

Make sure you’re at Twickenham in October to see rugby history being made in what promises to be a high-octane affair with both sides playing a fast, expansive game.
