Arsenal’s hopes of winning a Premiership title are all but buried following their embarrasing 3-0 home defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Mikel Arteta’s side were hammered by the Seagulls at the Emirates with Enciso, Undav and Estupinan scoring in the second half.

Following a first-half of few chances, the visitors went ahead through Julio Encisco, heading home from close range after Arsenal failed to clear the danger. The home side conceded a second when substitute Undav pounced on a mistake to lift his shot over Aaron Ramsdale and give Brighton a 2-0 lead.

There was time for Brighton to add a third in stoppage-time, when Pervis Estupinan bounced his shot into the net.

The loss was only Arsenal second home defeat in the league this season

Manchester City are now the champions in waiting after the Seagulls dominanted the Gunners. City went four points ahead of their title rivals earlier on Sunday when they defeated struggling Everton 3-0. Two goals from İlkay Gündoğan and another from Erling Haaland were enough to give the Citizens all the three points thus put pressure on Arteta’s charges.

One more win for City will see them clinch the title for the third time in a row.

Title remianing at Manchester

For Arsenal, their hope is for City to lose all their remaining three games and hope they win their last two games. That is wishful thinking and it’s unlikely that Pep Guardiola will let his men drop the ball.

Arteta has done a brilliant job with the team and for them to push City to the limit deserves praise. Unfortunately, the pressure was too much for the inexperience side and it showed in their final eight games where they managed only two wins.
