This Friday night, they have an easier game against bottom side Southampton, who are less likely to trouble the leaders but given the circumstances, the pressure might be too much for the London club. A win will put Arsenal at least seven points clear of City, having played two games more but it will give them the breathing space they desperately need.

Arsenal will be without defender William Saliba

The frenchman has impressed this season after returning from a loan spell with Marseille

“The picture hasn’t changed from last week. Regarding William, we still have to wait a little bit more,” Arteta was quoted on Arsenal’s website.

“He is not progressing as quick as we hoped. It’s a bit delicate and we want to be very certain when we push him that he is ready to absorb the load and the risk.

“At the moment that’s not possible to do.”
