AEW star Saraya says that she had given up hope of ever wrestling again before her return to action earlier this year.

Earlier this year Saraya competed in her first match since a 2016 injury threatened to leave her paralysed when she got into the ring with Dr Britt Baker, DMD.

While competing as Paige in WWE, Saraya suffered a life-altering injury that relegated her to seeing out her contract with the company as a broadcaster.

When she showed up in AEW to a massive pop, rumours began flying about that Saraya was cleared to wrestle.

Those rumours were soon confirmed and Saraya’s first match in AEW was a barn burner.

She says it was the comebacks of other stars like Edge and Stone Cold that made her believe she might get back in the ring one day.

“I wasn’t expecting to wrestle at all,” Saraya told Mojo Rawley during a recent interview on the TMZ Sports TV show.

“That wasn’t in the back of my head. I always wanted to go back into wrestling, but with Edge and Stone Cold, they waited years before even trying to think about getting back in the ring.”

There were some who expressed grave concerns about the safety of Saraya stepping back in the ring but she was cleared by one of the best in the business.

“Halloween, I went in there, and the doctor was straight-up like, ‘Let’s get you an X-ray,'” Saraya said. “He checked the X-ray and was like, ‘These are pretty good, but you can’t trust the X-rays. You have to go in with the MRIs and the CT to triple-check.'”

Wrestling fans showed Saraya how happy they were to have her back giving her an immense ovation for her surprise arrival in AEW.

“That was the biggest pop I ever got in my whole career,” Saraya said. “I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh! And I’m Saraya. And I’m trending for the first time in my career as Saraya,'” she continued.
