Serena Williams was always going to be the headline act at Roland Garros on Tuesday since the French Open was her first Grand Slam back after giving birth last September, not to mention all the hype surrounding the decision not to seed her at this year’s tournament.

But in true Serena style, the 36-year-old ditched the traditional tennis dress for a body-hugging black Nike catsuit offset by a red waistband which turned plenty of heads on day three in Paris.

The American downed Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 to register her first victory at the majors since her 2017 Australian Open triumph and will face Australia’s Ashleigh Barty in the next round.

The reaction was evenly split with fans celebrating her comeback and her choice of outfit with silvery glitter Nike shoes to match.

The official account belonging to the Miami Open perhaps summed it up best.

This is Serena Williams we’re talking about, the winner of not one or two Grand Slams, but 23.

If there’s someone who can pull it off to wear a catsuit returning from maternity leave, it’s Serena.
